There is a sharp fall in the number of camels since 1970-80s when it was 20 thousand in Ulziit soum of Dundgobi aimag.

Only about 5000 camels are now found in the soum. This decrease is becoming acute issue to concern for not only camel breeders but also everyone who cares for camel.

Under today's condition with desertification spread out, vegetation yield deterioration and climate change, camel is the most adoptable one among 5 basic domestic livestock of Mongolia (which are camel, horse, cattle, sheep and goat) with its high productivity, lower damage on pasture and good withstand in harsh climate circumstances.

With the initiative of "Green Gold" programme, therefore, a small project called "Camel" started to implement in Ulziit soum of Dundgobi aimag. "20 thousand camels" camelbreeders' summit held in the Ulziit soum centre to inform project activities, recieve camelbreeders' voice and collabrate in future. This event was attended by over 70 locals, soum officials and delegates of "Green Gold" program.

Summit delegates stressed that number of camels-respected as gobi elephant, is now considered as one of the diminishing animals in the global level. They changed opinions on camel breeding, efficiency improvement, increase number and appropriate management of growing and issued a call among camelbreeders, herders, government and non-government organizations asw ell as businessmen.

Second-year-old camel racing during this event is strongly charmed by the attendants.
